The Habit – Definition & Explanation | Ep # 3/13

Hello, my friends! I am your friendly guide, Mr. Smart. Have you ever wondered that we often don’t know the exact meaning of the words that we use in our daily lives quite often? Habit is one such word. Let us explore the practical meaning of Habit. So, what does Habit exactly mean?

Habit means the unconscious behaviors we have acquired through frequent repetition and reinforcement. We don’t even realize while doing them. It just happens automatically. Now, let us dig a bit deeper. We can think of habit as a link between a stimulus and a response. With continuous reinforcement this link becomes permanent. Or we can say that habit becomes permanent. Let Mr. Smart explain this phenomenon with an example. Some people overeat when they are under stress. Here, stress is the stimulus while overeating is the response. If this loop of stress leading to overeating is repeated frequently it will become our habit. Watch the video to know more.
